Are you writing for the search engines, or the reader? This is the question you should ask before writing anything on your website. Chances are, you’re leaning toward the reader. After all, you want a site that has visitors, or in other words real people, you can translate into business prospects, right?



But you can’t have visitors unless you have don’t have the search engine rankings, so is this a situation where you’re screwed if you do and if you don’t? Not really.



You can write natural sounding copy that’s interesting and informative, and make it search engine friendly. One of the basic ways to do this is by the appropriate use of keywords.



Don’t Keyword Stuff

Pages and pages of text that are stuffed to the brim with keywords. Sure, keywords can help make a site easier to find on the internet, but keywords also make it more difficult in terms of legibility. Keyword stuffing sounds unnatural and disengages the reader, plus too many keywords sets off alarms that indicate your site may be spammy. (Now didn’t that paragraph sound odd and mechanical? Instead of repeating "keyword" so many times, we could have replaced it with a pronoun or changed the sentence structure entirely.)




Bolding or Italicizing Keywords

There’s no need to bold and italicize every instance of a keyword on the page, but you can emphasize one (or two if it’s a longer page).



Using It As A Title of the Page

The main topic of the page is generally the keyword, so why not make it the title of the page? This is an easy way to emphasize the term, making it more visible to the reader and search engines.



Use It To Label Photos

Any images that are included on the page should always have captions, and what better way to describe an image than to use your keywords? Just don’t label every photo the same way (unless they are the same photo), since they’re different and consequenlty should have different captions as well.



Linking Keywords

If you have other pages on your site that feature the same keywords, linking is a great way to help boost those pages as well as the entire site overall. Linking the word or phrase helps the reader navigate the site, too.



The most important thing to consider is that seo copy and non-seo copy are the same thing. They should not be any difference between the two.
